Baptism

At Helena Methodist Church we follow Christ's example of being baptized to show our desire to be like Him.   Baptism may be performed by sprinkling, pouring or immersion.  Candidates being baptized are baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.  The water represents the washing away of sin in our lives and is a visual reminder of beginning a life change.  Baptism shows death to sin and a desire to live a new live in Christ.

What We Believe

We are a Christian Church.  This means that, along with millions of Christians, we have a Trinitarian understanding of God.  God is revealed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  This Trinitarian understanding of God grounds our faith in that Divine Relationship.  God is Love.  God is the continuous flow  of love in, among, and between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  That generosity of relationship, of eternal giving and receiving, teaches us how to live with each other. Our church is part of  the Global Methodist denomination and we believe in the truth of the Bible. Communion

In Holy Communion, also called the Lord's Supper, we are invited into fellowship with Christ who is spiritually present at the Lord's table.   We are given a foretaste of God's eternal banquet here.  The communion sacrament may be offered to all who repent of sin and desire to draw nearer to God with a life of obedience.  Communion is normally celebrated with all the congregation gathered to remember God's acts of salvation revealed in scripture.   It can also be taken individually if needed.

What to Expect

Our basic order of worship looks like this

  • Prelude: Our pianist plays while people gather

  • Bringing In The Light Of Christ: Our acolyte lights the Christ candles.

  • Welcome and Announcements:  The pastor and others in the congregation share announcements.  Then we have a time where we celebrate those  having a birthday in the coming week by singing.

  •  Call To Worship: This is usually a  statement by the pastor, with a congregation responding. The entire text will be in the bulletin and projected on the screen.

  • Opening Praise:   The lyrics are projected on the projection screen.  For those who like to read music, the hymnal used and the hymn number are printed in the bulletin.

  • Scripture Lessons:  Generally a text is  read.   The sermon is based on one of the scriptures read.

  • Hymn of Response:  Having heard the Word read and proclaimed in the sermon, the congregation responds, with a hymn.

  • The Lord’s Prayer:  the congregational prayer ends with the congregation joining together and saying The Lord’s Prayer.”

  • Offering:  During the offering, we pass around plates to collect God’s tithes  and our gifts to support the growth   of the Kingdom of God. Please feel free to participate in the offering as God leads you to do so, but understand that you are not obligated to put anything in the offering plate.

  • Doxology: “Doxology” means “giving glory.”  We sing this song as the offering is brought forward.

  • Holy communion (generally on the first Sunday of the month)

  • Closing Hymn

  • Benediction: The pastor offers a blessing and sends us back out into the world.

  • Benediction response: The congregation joins in singing a verse from a hymn, printed in the bulletin and/or projected on the screen, while the pastor and accolyte  exit the sanctuary.

Thinking about joining?

Based on interest, the pastor will periodically lead a new member’s class.

The class will discuss:

  1. What does it mean to be Christian?

  2. What does it mean to be Global  Methodist?
    (and)

  3. What does it mean to be a member of Helena Methodist?

After participating in these discussions, you  are free to decide whether or not you would like to join the church.
